“Tough as nails”

Writer's picture: Arthi SunilArthi Sunil

These are tough unpredictable times for all of us. However its these tough times that teach us to pause and introspect. As per the 4th All India handloom census 2019-20, India has 31.45 lakhs handloom weavers and allied workers of which 72% are women and 66.3% earn less than INR 5000 per month. While there are several Government schemes to support them during these tough times, it's the underprivilliged that suffer the most.

Recently the honourable #smritiirani_in madam and the Ministry of Textiles, released an advisory about engaging in "Commerce with Compassion" and we completely agree.

We are a small business that has just started up, but despite that, we are not going to appeal to you to purchase what you dont need right now as we understand the mood. The only appeal that we would like to make, is that once things improve, do make a commitment to yourself to support a handcraft and the livelihood of an artisan.

The pictures in this post are all copyright and of artists engaged in Indriyas manufacturing orders, that we continue to uphold despite the economic situation. We believe it is our responsibility as entrepreneurs to be responsible in true sense of the word.

Should you wish to support these artists now, then do reach out. At a nominal charge of Rs 500/- a product can be reserved. The remaining can be paid at the time of despatch.

We have kotpad products made by Shri Samanta, crochet by Godavari Society, Kantha, batik by Karma kutir NGO and linen woven by Shri Raman.

Support a craft, impact a livelihood. Be elegant, Buy sensible, stay rooted!
