Description

Presenting divine 'Chandana' an exotic shade of 'chandan' or sandalwood in pure handwoven Kanchipuram silk with rose gold copper zari. The inspiration for the divine saree comes from the 'Rakhtha Chandana' or special hue of sandalwood paste that you get in 'Ayyappa' temples in the southern part of India. The saree shines elegantly in the evenings and casts a divine glow upon the wearer. The border of the saree has pretty floral vines and the body of the saree has small buttas similair to the speck of chandan that is taken and applied on the forehead.

Stay away from the run of the mill red's, blues and pinks in this exquisite drape. The saree is ideal for the evening for a cocktail dinner or a function. Style with pretty rose gold or pearls and be the showtopper of the occassion.

The blouse worn by the model is for styling purposes.

About Kanchivaram/Kanchipuram

Popularly known as the “City of Silk” and the “City of 1000 temples”, Kanchipuram, is located 70 km away from Chennai and is famous for its handwoven silk sarees with delicate zari work. It is considered to be one of the seven sacred cities in India, as it houses more than 1000 temples.

A tradition that is more than 150 years old, the story of Kanchipuram silk saree begins in Hindu Mythology. Legend has it that Kanchi weavers are descendants of Sage Marakanda, who was considered to be the master weaver for the Gods themselves. The early weavers of Kanchipuram were from two major communities of Andhra Pradesh, the Devangas and Saligars, who migrated to the town of Kanchipuram. They used their excellent skills to make sarees that bore the images of the sculptures and figurines found in temples, around the village.

The acclaim for GI tagged Kanchivaram sarees is purely for its special weaving technique that has mulberry silk of 18-20 denier 4 ply silk in the warp and 6 ply in the weft, twisted together with zari (a silk thread twisted with a thin silver wire and gilded with pure gold) to create sarees which are usually stronger and more lustrous that other silk sarees.

Kanchi silk sarees are known for their artisanal contrast borders, intricate designs inspired by royalty, nature and religion that is most commonly found in these striking borders.

When you buy a pure silk, fine zari handwoven saree, you are actually adopting a piece of Indian cultural heritage into your world.
