Description
A Kanchipuram handwoven silk saree in a delicate shade of rose pink, the variety that is used to make 'gulab jal' is delicate and elegant. The saree is in shimmering light pink with dark pink undertones. The highlight of the saree is the representation of bridal jewelry, in intricate thread word presented in the border and aanchal. The contrast dark pink border begins with a dark green selevedge or thin border and has the following intricate traditional motifs in lines. A thin line of diamonds is followed with a line of 'Rudraksha' (holy beads) motifs, followed by a 'Rettai neli' (toe ring) motifs and followed by the intricate 'raakodi jadai' (hair ornament) motif .  The end of the border has a line of small temple and mango motif alternating design. The border meets the light pink body of the saree with a highlight of dark green against dark pink making the contrasts a striking one.  
The body of the saree has real zari small 2 floral motifs. 
The anchal of the saree is a showstopper with the same details as the border in a larger version. An anchal which must be flaunted and not pleated so that the intricate handwoven art may be appreciated.

About Kanchivaram/Kanchipuram
Popularly known as the “City of Silk” and the “City of 1000 temples”, Kanchipuram, is located 70 km away from Chennai and is famous for its handwoven silk sarees with delicate zari work. It is considered to be one of the seven sacred cities in India, as it houses more than 1000 temples.
 
A tradition that is more than 150 years old, the story of Kanchipuram silk saree begins in Hindu Mythology. Legend has it that Kanchi weavers are descendants of Sage Marakanda, who was considered to be the master weaver for the Gods themselves. The early weavers of Kanchipuram were from two major communities of Andhra Pradesh, the Devangas and Saligars, who migrated to the town of Kanchipuram. They used their excellent skills to make sarees that bore the images of the sculptures and figurines found in temples, around the village.
The acclaim for GI tagged Kanchivaram sarees is purely for its special weaving technique that has mulberry silk of 18-20 denier 4 ply silk in the warp and 6 ply in the weft, twisted together with zari (a silk thread twisted with a thin silver wire and gilded with pure gold) to create sarees which are usually stronger and more lustrous that other silk sarees. 
Kanchi silk sarees are known for their artisanal contrast borders, intricate designs inspired by royalty, nature and religion that is most commonly found in these striking borders.
